I've taken many workshops from Janet Rogers, and she is just as sweet and nice as she is talented. Just to sit and watch her paint is worth far more than the price of admission. Her gentle help was instrumental in getting me to "loosen up". We consider her and her husband Steve to be local treasures. Jump all over this opportunity and you can tell her I said so! - Robin |

Kukana, Mt Dora is 25-30miles north of Orlando on 441.They have more then 1 wkshop per year. I am not a member. The Leesburg Art association is another 15- 20 miles west on 441. I am a member. So far Janet Rogers is scheduled. They will have other wkshps as well.Across the state,2 counties over is the Citrus Watercolor Club. They meet in Inverness. Thats about 40 miles fr Leesburg. They had Nita Leland last Feb for a workshop. She is a thorough, patient teacher. Going north to Ocala, there is the Ocala Art Group, they meet in the Appleton mueseum. Exquisite facilities. The citrus watercolor club has Dave Becker,Janet Rogers and Shirley Bedient scheduled. |

Chris, I have not been to Springmaid as a workshopper but most of my painting buddies go twice a year. I have been to Springmaid for other art activities. I am hooked on Kanuga WC Workshops in Flat Rock, NC.They only have one workshop a year in latter part of March or 1st of April. Not quite as pricy as Springmaid, not as many people and I have never had any trouble getting the instructor I wanted. Springmaid runs for three weeks and you can take one, two, or all three weeks. They also have a lottery system to get in. I'm not positive how it works but sometimes people do not get the instructor they want. |

Thanks patinsc. I e-mailed and asked for the information. In the past I have had a conflict but maybe it will work out this time. Have you taken workshops there? Do you like the setting? |

Chris, it won't help you now, but Webb had a workshop either through the Charlottesville art group (name?) or the museum here, a few months ago. Might be another connection. A friend here went to it. No, I'm stil here... Jean |

Would love to have Webb's website if you can find it. I am on the coast of NC - as far east as you can go! And a long way from anywhere else! A winter workshop in Florida would be nice but would like something closer to keep expenses down. |

Hey Chris, I am a Big Frank Webb fan. I took him in Taos last year and he was great. What part of the country do you live in? He actually has a wweb address that he will send you a schedule. I'll try to find it and post it for you. Aside from being a great artist he is an unbelieveable teacher. A true master educator. Kukana |

I agree about the workshop site. By the time I get info on them, they are full or worse, finished! I have been trying to get into to a Skip Lawrence workshop for 2 years. Also interested in Frank Webb. |

Seems to me that there really needs to be a better clearing house for Workshops available. There are a couple of individual sites and of course cheap joes has his but it is really hard finding the workshops by the big name people. Any ideas of sites I can add to my bookmark list. Im still looking for a Michael Atkinson Workshop. I missed the one in Oregon.I was on a wait list and never got in. |

Couldn't get my laptop dialed in, to the Net!!!! Yes, withdrawal symtoms! Glad if I can help someone sometimes; it's fun. The teacher said, "You have a lot of book knowledge, but need to paint more..." What have I been telling you? Same thing. Jean |

feather, I'm with you. Jean is surly missed. I'll bet she is having a great time though. I know when I'm away I cannot wait to get back to the board to see what I have missed. This is addictive! |

I wonder if Jean is experiencing withdraw symptoms yet! She's been away from this board for almost a week now. I bet that when she gets back she will have a hundred things to post to make up for her absence. PS: I'm sure that I'm not the only one that misses her insite and the encouragement that she gives to others on this board. |

Someone answer this for sure, but I think he still does workshops. He just put out the new book and videos. You might look in the Cheap Joe list of workshops. Jean |

Chris, go to www.Artshow.com and there are a couple of good ones listed for your area. I hear that the Linda Stevens Moyer class is great but I do not have first hand experience. Also did you check out the CJAS Workshopper. There is a ton listed in bothe NC and VA |

Does anyone know of a watercolor workshop in VA or NC next fall that will be taught by a great teacher? I always need a "workshop Fix" after the summer and have not found one yet. Would like intermediate to advanced level. Thanks for any suggestions. |

Ginnie, Hi there. I took a workshop from Jan Kunz last year on portrait painting. This was after a recommendation from 2 friends who had gone to her the year before and LOVED her. She is a very talented and spirited person. She has the energy of someone many years younger. She is very serious about her teaching, which I absolutely love. We were "immersed" with her from morning until evening at an isolated cabin-type resort. This was her suggestion to the organizers, so that there would be more time to paint and learn. No distractions to find food(meals were prepared for us) or travel to housing. She started early, critiqued and taught into the night. She was very personable and encouraging also. She does talk and paint fast though(lots of demos). But she doesn't mind a bit if you ask questions and have her repeat things. She often goes out of her way to bring in unique models(we had real live Indians and Cowboys and Musicians). She's a lot of fun too. Her video on painting portraits is VERY good. Spendy, but very helpful in reinforcing the class. What is your interest? |

Ginnie, I haven't exactly been in Jan's class but she has taught workshops at Kanuga several times. I have seen her demos, talked with people in her class, and visited her classroom in off hours. Her students seem to love her. I love her work but it is just not my style so I don't take her class. I know that is not what you asked but I thought I'd throw that in. |

Has anyone taken a workshop with Jan Kunz? She is the author of 'Painting Watercolor Florals That Glow', 'Painting from Photographs' and 'Painting Watercolor Portraits That Glow'. All Northlight books. Ginnie |

I need advice on a workshop for a beginner in watercolors (but who has studied oils, and has read every publication possible on watercolor.)Although some classes will take beginners, I found it to be quite intimidating, to be in a class of confident painters. Any suggestions? |

Is there a club, guild or association in your area? Our town has just began a Guild, our first year anniversary if coming up. It is wonderful. The more experienced members give demos, or we invite a guest demonstrator, to each meeting, plus, we have area artist giving us one & two day workshops at very good rates, i.e. a 2day pastel workshop for $40.00 and a one day watercolor workshop for $25.00...very reasonable. If you don't have a club in your area, consider starting one. You will find artists are some of the most generous of spirit people on this earth. Billie Dawn |

Dear geeky2, I started painting with watercolor after knowing oils in a class that consisted of various levels. Actually I learned as much from other people in the class as from the instructor. It was sponcered by the local art association. Since then I have taken several classes on color in general and with watercolor. I think that you would find that most artists who have painted with watercolor are not out to intimidate you - at least not all of them. Remember that is their way of feeling superior when in reality they may not be. |

Thanks to everyone on art classes. In classes, the art class members and teachers were very nice, and not trying to be intimidating. I think it is just me. I feel I need a real basic beginner's class, although I've studied art for years. Watercolor, which I'm learning to love, is different than what I've done in the past. |

Can anyone help me locate details on a workshop given by Jeanne Carbonetti in the Burlington, Vermont area in August? She is the author of several books; Tao of W/C is my favorite. Thanks |
