Thanks Kukana and sarita-- I was really struck by the fact that his book has in it the very scenes from the same vantage points that I painted while in zion in '02. I like his interpretations much better but at the same time saw a deep similarity in our approaches. He seems to be the guy I can learn from right now==I'll check him out. |

I just taoked to another friend in Utah that took the long summer program he offers at the college there in Ephriam..She said it moved a little slower than she had hoped but she said she learned so much and the extra time gave her time to start several paintings that took her work in a whole different direction. She also said the summer program fills up fast so you ned to book for next year asap. |

Robert - He also has a wonderful book out 'Painting with your Artist's Brain'. Being a newbie, I was enlighten by some very basic elements in terms of composition, simplicity, value shapes and value patterns. I highly recommend it. |

OK, Here is what I know. He is somewhat of a local hero in Utah. I don't know how far his fame stretches out past the West. If I recall he is or was a college proffessor at Snow College in Utah. I believe he has a MFA from BYU (which has a wonderful art program) as do such other famous artists like Del Parsons, James Christiansen, Nelson Boren and Robert Duncan. (They are all about the same age if I rememebr and were peers) I understand he is a good instructor from his years of teaching at the college level from a few friends who have studied with him and say he has a wonderful personna. I have heard nothing but good stuff. Kukana |
