The pics are from old magazine from the 80's so very likely misidentified since in the same article. I have Szabos "Color by Color" and there are some pictures of houses that look similar to the house style in Webb on watercolor so I somehow got the idea after seeing those pictures there was a pseudonym thing going on. Silly of me. |

Wow, i wonder if one of the phoyos could be wrongly identified. Szabo was a short (Maybe 5'2"-5'4")heavy set hungarian with a very round face and soft features. Webb is at least a foot taller, at least 6'2", very commnding presence, square jaw, much longer face and forehead, and bright twinkling eyes! The fact that they both have grey hair (in their latter years) is the only simillarity I see. Could be that you picture is mis-labeled. Wow...a Webb on Watercolor for .50 Such a great find! |

Well the 2 photos I have make them look like twins. I've never seen them or other photos. They probably don't really look alike, but these photos are indistiguishable. |

I can't believe my luck! Largo Library is moving soon, and clearing out tons of books. My wife grabbed a bunch of w/c books when they came up and got me a great condition Webb on W/C for ... $0.50!!! Is this a great country or what?! |

Webb and Zoltan the same? Huh?...I don't get it, Robert. There are plenty of "Webb-like" artists out there, but Zoltan's paintings don't resemble Webb's. Having read most of Zoltan's books(not among my favorites) and all of Webb's, they're completely different. Maybe you're referring to the photos of the artists next to their bio. Maybe you think they look alike? |

Robert. I'm surprised that you would think Webb and Szabo were the same artist. Their styles are not even remotely the same. I think of Szabo as a "renderer". Webb is a much more creative artist. Suzy. I have never taken a Szabo workshop, but have heard the same reaction as yours, from several other accomplished artists. So you are not alone in your critique of his teaching. |

Frank Webb studied under and was a dear close friend of the great artist and educator, Edgar Whitney. His style is unique and wonderful yet does, I believe, reflect THAT relationship. I have actually studied under both Webb and Szabo and there is no comparison. As far as teaching styles , IMHO , I have never been taught any subject with as much fun, clarity and insight that I have in Frank Webbs class. On the other hand, I quit the 4th day of a five day workshop with Zolton Szabo because I was falling asleep in class and got tired of his negitive personality as well as his use...and over use...of OPAQUE WHITE!!!!. Both are accomplished artists in their own right but I am clearly an Webb fan. I learned more from him about art, composition and color in one week than I did in four years of college. I have now taken three workshops from him. |

Thus they are not the same painter. Amazing! |

Frank Webb is definitely not a pseudonym for the late Zoltan Szabo. Webb is alive and well, and in my opinion a much better artist than Szabo was. I'm taking his workshop in March. I have his book "Watercolor Energies" and it's great! |

Once again without so many glaring typos: "At the local used book store I found a copy of 'Webb on Watercolor', hardback, pristine for $7.50. I thought about buying it and selling it on ebay for $100 bucks but didn't want to bother with the shipping and stuff. Thumbed through it. Put it back on the shelf. Is Frank Webb a pseudonym of the late Zoltan Szabo? Had they ever been seen together in the same room?" |
