Following this thread's header, I tried a painting on a large auto floor mat. The paint just beaded up but still, hanging on the wall under glass, it looks interesting, expecially the words "oldsmoblie" embossed across the bottom. Has anyone else ever painted on an unusual surface. |

I like that huge "Skipper" brush sold here --it's some kind of ox hair and coarse. It works well on large pictures for texture. I did not have good luck with the Legend Kolinskys. They are a bit floppy for my tastes. And hairs come out. That's not good. I have tried hake brushes (flat goat hair sumi-e brushes) but only mildly enjoy using them. Years ago I bought a Grumbacher aquarelle brush and I'd buy another, in a wider size in a heartbeat. |

Seriously, Eric is right, use a big brush. I have a 4" flat Simmions sky flow that I love! If I could get a 6 in that same quality I would. |

One adjustment I had to make when going to full sheet work was to make the passages more interesting. Since each wash is physically bigger, what would have been okay in a smaller size as a monochrome wash, looks boring blown up , so I do a lot more charging of various hues into washes to energize them. Also, because of the size, brushstrokes that are bold and fluid are more exciting. |

Using a full sheet, sometimes the drawing can be off. I have to periodically stand back and look at it from a distance because it can be hard to see the whole paper from close up. So when you draw the scene on the paper, take a few steps back to make sure it's drawn correctly. |

I have never worked on anything larger than a half sheet, and I am thinking about trying a full sheet or larger. Any advice or tips? |
