thanks for your useful suggestions. suzy i really dig ikea but unfortunately there was no ikea store nearby and i was sad to find that joe's perfect show mats were on backorder when it was time to order them.

good news though - i did find an excellent mail order solution that i thought was a good value: framesbymail dot com.

by the way eugene i did go with frosted silver - they look great and i received more than a few nice compliments on them =)

thanks again!

By any chance is there an IKEA near where you live? They sell wonderful frames that come with a single white mat andplexiglass that will fit both full and half sheets. The full size on is only $30. They are a shadow box type frame and look good. They come in a maple wood, blonde wood and black wood. I use them alot for my fine art shows.

Midnight--- order frames the same size as your mats. I'm not wild about metal frames but I use them because they are cheap. Many buyers reframe them anyway. I order my custom cut metal frames mail order for lower prices. MY FAVORITES ARE FROSTED SILVER. I think the shiney are a little garish. Also, consider painting to fit standard frame sizes that come with glass. I don't like to use plexi except for large pieces where weight is important.
However, most national show require it. It scratches easily, and builds up static which makes it difficult to keep out dusst whem assembling.

I am looking for a framing solution for full-sheet and half-sheet watercolors...

Main purposes: Entering shows and possibly displaying in galleries.

I know some of the main options are: Custom Framing, Using shrinkwrapped or bagged matting systems or moving to standard photographic sizes.

I was thinking of using Joe's Perfect Show Mat system for full (32x40) & half (22x28) sheets and then buying metal frame with 1/8" plexiglass from the HomeDepot.

What are your opinions? - I'd really like to know since this is my main link to other watercolor artists.

Also, say if I used a (32x40) Perfect Show mat would the frame size I buy be a pair of 32"s and a pair of 40"s? (when building precut metal frames is the length the inner or outer length?)

Best Regards and thanks to all who reply.
