Jay-- All of those are valid concerns. It is a lightweight compromise if you have to haul the easel any distance. Much lighter than a french easel. The dart style works with gatorboard just fine--I've used one--a lot depends upon how agressive your brushwork is--if you put a lot of pressure the board will give around the edges. You might have to hold the corner with the other hand. But there aren't many lightweight alternatives and overall it's a good design. |

W/ the 'Dart' easel, what do you use for a 'table top'? Would the clamping setup crush the edges of Gator Board, or cause surface curvature from the inward pressure? And...how steady would this setup be - like when painting towards the left or right end of the surface? Thx! /Jay |

We don't have one set up here at Cheap Joe's but everybody I talk to that has seen it and worked with it says it is a "high class" piece. With easels, as with most things art, you really do get what you pay for. And, if you get it and don't like it we have a 365 day guarantee. You just have to ship it back at your expense. |

If you've received the Cheap Joe's Autumn sale flyer in the mail recently, check out the full size watercolor easel on the cover. $299 is a lot but it looks like it might be worth it. Has anyone used this easel? |

I got the black metal W&N one at Hobby Lobby- very similar to the dart one. I wanted a Jullian but can;t afford it right now. I like my W&N easel, however! Aimee |

Speaking of thanks, I just started using the Robert Simmons white sable brushes as per recommendation here. Wow! They are springy and really deliver the right amt of water. I love them. I'll be retiring the kolinsky sables for now. |

http://www.cheapjoes.com/store/navigation.asp?cat=5240 I just purchased one and it is perfect for watercolor--lightweight and tilts at any angle. Thanks to whomever recommended it on this board. |
