From my reading on this site, which IS A BLESSING!!! I've found disenchantment with the "big" watercolor societies (all I can recall is NWS, but by some people's list of awards behind their names, there must be at least fifty more). Being new to the field of watercolor, I figure I'll do some internet research on these, and I'm sure they're all linked anyway. After studying up on other great artists, I've found they've had disenchantment with their contemporary artist societies as well. It may well be the mark of the true individualist (concurrent with the visionary) to be rejected by these societies. Though ostracism is something we may be required to face in our lives, artistically speaking, we MUST be true to the creative principle within, even if we must go against what society agrees upon. It is the point upon which we later judge ourselves. Be not afraid to defy convention, my mother always taught. I am this way. I notice a dearth of participation under this particular topic. While it is true we should rather say nothing than say something negative, I believe we are free to be, here, ourselves, as long as not pornographic, or unbecoming to humanity. I would like to see those rejected or outcast, scan and share their "outlandish" ideas here. Surely here, on the internet, we may find a sympathetic voice, an artist of kind. If not, we may be looking at a true visionary after all, and I, for one, would love to look upon such gifts. |

I am going to Mexico during December to check it out for relocation in a couple years or sooner....San Miguel de Allende, Lake Chapal area, possibly Oaxaca etc. Does anyone know of good watercolor workshops anywhere in Mexico, preferably during December? I would like to include some painting with others while there. Thanks. |

Anyone interested in watercolors and coming near Richmond Va, you would love The Virginia Watercolor Society Juried Exhibition at Virginia Commonwealth Univ. Anderson Gallery. *Juror: Katherine Chang Lui |

Could someone give a listing of the watercolor societies in Virginia with their current addresses. I found the Central Virginia Watercolor Society on the web but the e-mail address was incorrect and mail returned. |

I have attended several art shows in the last year and I know there are at least three active watercolor groups serving Central Virginia. I can't seem to find the names and addresses that I wrote down but I know someone else who has them. i will post them here in a few days. |

This is a great opportunity to join or form groups in areas around the country. May need an A to Z selection site. How about folks in CA, from Sacramento to Placerville.? Interesed? |

There was no easily accessable society in this small rural community so last summer 3 of us formed our own. We announced our second meeting in the local paper which was titled `Calling All Artists'. There were maybe 8 artists at that meeting, and now there are nearly 30 of us AND we have formed a co-op gallery! All within 6 months! Form your own is certainly a good suggestion. Also, check your woodwork .... I feel sure you will find fellow artist' hiding there. |
