I've been using Lukas pan paints since 1994 when a local distributer put them all on sale. I find them brilliant and intense and all-around great! I don't really care for the half-pans, preferring the whole pan paints, which I put in a cheap joes white plastic palette.

Glad others are finding out about these great paints!

I ended up with the 48 pan LUKAS set accidentally, trying to place an online order. The box was so cute I kept them. This was the first pan set I had used in a long time.I used them to paint in final details on a full sheet detailed painting. I was really wowed by the handling, brilliance and clarity of the colors. The painting came out really nice. I just hope they hold up as well as the usual brands like Davinci, W&N, and Maimeribleu, DS etc.

Actually, I had room for 4 additional pans after removing all the wrapping paper so I took 4 W&N 1/2 pans from a compact set and they fit the Lukas tin. W&N 1/2 pans are just a bit smaller, but they fit fine...if you used a lot of them you might want to use double-sided tape under the pans to hold them better.

Another question. Are the Lukas pans the same size as the W&N ones? Could you replace some of the Lukas pigments as they run out with other brands, still using the same tin?

I just bought the 48 half-pan set from ASW and it's really quite good! The colors have depth and brilliance and all in all, I'm quite satisfied. I have used W&N and Sennlier pans (as well as W&N, Holbein and Daniel Smith tube paints), and the Lukas pans measure up pretty well, especially for the price! The tin is nice, too.

Hello all,

Does anyone have any experience with LUKAS pan watercolors? The price seems right from several distributers and they sell whole pans in a nice tin.
